History Details For - George Washington1/1/1779George Washington, the commander in chief of the continental army during the American Revolution. General Washingtons military career began at the very beginning of the French and Indian War. His performance in that war was not exactly memorable, but it gave him something that few american officers had -- military experience. His many early defeats in the Revolution were due to his attempts at keeping the rag-tag army from being completely destroyed by the superior British forces facing him.
Washington precided over the army throughout the revolution and became the first president of the United States after the war. Links:
